One belt and one road

One Belt and One Road (OBOR), raised up by Chinese President Xi Jinping, is a project that focuses on improving connectivity and cooperation among multiple countries spread across the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. It is a development strategy adopted by the Chinese government involving infrastructure development and economic cooperation in countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. “Belt” refers to the overland routes for road and rail transportation, called “the Silk Road Economic Belt”; whereas “road” refers to the sea routes, or the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. From South-east Asia to Eastern Europe and Africa, Belt and Road includes 71 countries that account for half the world’s population and a quarter of global GDP.

The initiative was unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September and October 2013 during visits to Kazakhstan and Indonesia, and was thereafter promoted by Premier Li Keqiang during state visits to Asia and Europe.

China Railway Express

The launch of a Yuxinou rail freight service from the Chinese city Chongqing via the Alashankou border crossing in Xinjiang through Central Asia to Europe in March 2011 launched a new era for freight on rail as an alternative to shipping by sea or air. China-Europe rail cargo transport has subsequently gained rapid development, incentived by the rollout of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The importance of China’s rail link to Europe was highlighted in a white paper issued by the Chinese government in March 2015 entitled Cooperating to Build a Silk Road Economic Belt and a 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road – Vision and Actions.

There are currently 40 service lines running through Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Northeast border crossings to destinations in Central Asia, Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and Western Europe. A total of 12000 trains have been run between China and Europe until the end of 2018.

The “China Railway Express” service, seen as the “Belt and Road on rail,” helps boost connectivity between China and the rest of Eurasia. An interconnected network has begun to replace uncoordinated individual cargo lines. In addition to offering freight transport solutions, it contributes to flows of global investment, resources, technology and skilled personnel, and facilitates global cross-sector collaboration

Yuxinou

In order to meet the requirements of constructing Asia’s largest laptop production base in Chongqing. In 2011, Chongqing Municipal Government has put Yuxinou into service through further optimization and improvement of the original Eurasian Land Bridge, with the great support of National Ministries and Commissions such as the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Railways. The new Eurasian Land Bridge starts from Chongqing Tuanjiecun passes Alashankou, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland, finally arrives Duisburg of Germany covering 11,179 kilometers. The transporting rate is only 1/5 of air freight, while, the transporting time could be saved for more than 30 days compared with River-Sea coordinated transport. Currently, existing raiway borde crossings include Khorgos, Erenhot, Manchuria and Pingxiang as well. Yuxinou runs the train to Germany,Poland, Russia, Hungary, Iran and Middle Aisa. In Germany, there are regular schedualed trains to Duisburg, Manheim and Hamburg. Yuxinou logisitcs has served as a main project for China’s Belt and Road Initiatve and a perfect representation of Chongqing’s government motto “Chongqing: Journey to New Accomplishment”.
